Columbus City Schools is Hiring a 2019/20 Middle School Principal Near Columbus, OH

POSITION SUMMARY: Provides strategic direction andoversees execution of all plans and activities of the district’s curriculumensuring student learning experiences consistent with the mission statement andinstructional goals of the district. Servesas the academic and administrative leader of assigned middle school.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

·Directsthe day-to-day activities of building staff. Duties include hiring, training, counseling, evaluating staffperformance, and when necessary recommending the disciplining and/or dischargingstaff.

·Supervisesthe delivery of academic instruction ensuring learning experiences consistentwith the mission statement and instructional goals of the building and district.

·Guidesthe selection of professional development materials to help support educatorsto deliver effective programs and services.

·Partnerswith executive director to develop and maintain collaborative relationshipswith higher education partners to ensure successful pre-service educatordevelopment opportunities in the district and related district educatorprofessional development opportunities.

·Providesassistance and guidance to staff who are engaged in student instruction.

·Promotesimprovement of curriculum and instruction within the building.

·Monitorsstudent achievement and progress toward instructional goals and objectives ofthe building and district; initiates corrective action as necessary.

·Providesleadership and direction in the development and execution of the building’s ASIPschool improvement plan.

·Developsmaster schedule and class scheduling of students.

·Preparesand administers building budget(s). Overseesthe procurement of books, supplies, materials and equipment ensuringexpenditures are within the approved budget(s).

·Plans,coordinates and conducts staff development activities ensuring that instructionneeds of the building are addressed.

·Monitorsschool building areas to ensure safe conditions and compliance with Federal,state and local health and safety standards.

·Createsand promotes a positive and cooperative atmosphere that encourages andmotivates students and staff; ensures rules are fairly and consistentlyadministered.

·Monitorsbuilding compliance with related regulatory requirements and district standards;initiates corrective action as necessary.

·Preparesand manages assigned educator professional development budget(s).

·Supportsimplementation of the building’s after-school activities and events byattending activities/events and ensuring acceptable student behavior at allschool sanctioned/sponsored activities/events.

·Overseesthe maintenance of accurate personnel, student and fiscal records; protectsconfidentiality of information.

·Preparesor oversees completion of required documentation and reports.

·Establishesand maintains open lines of communication with central office administrators,building staff, students, parents and others; articulates and promotes the visionand mission of the building.

·Promotespositive school-community relations by clearly communicating school messages toparents and members of the community; responding to parental and communityinquiries in a timely and courteous manner, and maintaining visibility withstudents, parents and the community.

·Participateson district-wide committee(s) as assigned; performs related tasks.

·Ensuresdepartmental staff maintains required credentials and facilitates on-goingdevelopment opportunities that align with district strategies and objectives

·Resolves problems, situations orissues in a collaborative, tactful, courteous and respectful manner.

·Maintainscurrent knowledge of best practices, trends and new developments in middleschool curriculum, instruction and building administration. Recommends andimplements changes to operations and instructional strategies as necessary.

·Ensuresdepartmental staff maintains required credentials and facilitates on-goingdevelopment opportunities that align with district strategies and objectives

·Workscooperatively with intervention assistance team, guidance counselors, studentsafety resource coordinator, and

others to implement variousinitiatives to increase academic success and ensure students are able toachieve their appropriate grade level.

·Plans, coordinates and executesstudent activities and programs

·Performs other duties as assigned

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

·Master’sdegree in Education or a related field.

·Two(2) or more years of experience as an assistant principal in a K-12 environment,including supervisory responsibilities.

·ValidOhio Department of Education Administrator certificate or equivalent.

·Demonstratedknowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards and district policies relatedto assigned functions.

·Demonstratedsupervisory skills to effectively manage the daily operations andadministration of assigned function(s).

·Interpersonalskills necessary to communicate effectively and work productively with alllevels of district staff, students, parents and the general public. Theincumbent is also required to have effective verbal and written communicationskills and be able to handle problem situations in a tactful, courteous andrespectful manner.

·Writtenand computer skills necessary to maintain various departmental records,documents and reports.

·Abilityto handle problem situations in a tactful, courteous and respectful manner.

·Strongwritten and verbal communication skills, including effective presentationskills.

·Analyticalability to develop plans of action to address a variety of issues and concernsin a timely manner.

·Mathematicalaptitude necessary to develop an annual budget and monitor expenditures.

·Demonstratedability to effectively serve as a leader and member of a team.
